Old Town of Agüimes

Founded as an church manor town by the Spanish Catholic Monarchs it now offers a wide range of rural and nature tourism and is a growing trade centre thanks to the port of Arinaga.
Amongst the cultural highlights are the San Sebastian church and surrounding cobbled streets, and the pre-Hispanic archaeological sites at Temisas and Guayadeque.

Temisas

Temisas is a small rural hamlet in southeast Gran Canaria close to Agüimes town, It’s known for its rural architecture, low homes whitened with plaster and lime, with gabled roofs and terracotta tiles.
Temisas is an official Typical Canarian Hamlet.

Ayacata

The village of Ayacata belongs to San Bartolomé de Tirajana, situated in the centre of the island.
It sits in one of the craters in the centre of the island, the starting point for the main ravines.
This basalt agglomerate is made up of rock fragments of different sizes (between a few centimeters and more than one meter) and composition (tephrite, basalt, basaites and phonolites),
compacted in a solid paste of cream-colored tuffs.

Roque Nublo

Roque Nublo is considered one of the biggest natural crags in the world. Of special significance to the islanders, this crag of volcanic origin stands at a height of 80 metres and is 1,813 metres above sea level.
An ancient place of worship for the aborigines, it was declared a protected natural space in 1987 and a rural park seven years later.

Tenteniguada (Valsequillo)

In Valsequillo, in the heart of Gran Canaria, a circular pathway almost 7.5 kilometres long and of average difficulty runs through the Special Natural Reserve of Los Marteles.
Along this route trekkers and nature lovers will discover a great variety of native plant species like the blue Canary Island Giant Burgloss or the Tenteniquada thistle as well as a unique volcanic landscape and a traditional cheese dairy where the highly regarded cheeses of Valsequillo are made.
